Lexus SC / Toyota Soarer

The Toyota Soarer JZZ30 (Z30 series) is Toyota’s Japan-market luxury GT coupe, powered by the 1JZ-GTE twin-turbo inline-six mated to an R154 5-speed manual transmission. North American models, sold as the Lexus SC, received either the 2JZ-GE or 1UZ-FE.

Built from 1991 to 2000, the Soarer predated majority of its suspension architecture with the MkIV Supra - Including 4-wheel double wishbones and optional TEMS electronically-controlled dampers - but rides on a longer 2,690 mm wheelbase for improved highway stability and comfort.

Early JZZ30s featured parallel twin turbos; later models (1996+) switched to a single turbo with VVT-i, producing a torque-rich 378 Nm at lower RPM.

Designed by Toyota’s Calty studio in California, the Soarer remained exclusive to Japan and continues to offer unmatched refinement, tunability, and street presence for dedicated enthusiasts.
